Of course! The need is now more apparent than ever. Let us examine some statistics I researched from SeniorJournal.com.
Aug. 20, 2009 ? New life expectancy tables using data through 2007 were released yesterday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which show the average 65-year-old senior citizen can expect to live to almost 84. And, another new high, shows newborns in the U.S. can expect to live to about 78. Part of the reason for this is the continued drop in the death rate.
Senior Citizen Population on Brink of Explosion in World and in United States: Census Bureau
U.S. seniors may increase by 40% in five years, world senior age group to triple by 2050.
In the U.S., the population 65 and older will more than double by 2050, rising from 39 million today to 89 million.
June 24, 2009 ? The U.S. Census Bureau has released data over several recent days that highlight to staggering boom in the senior citizen population in the world and nation. In the U.S., the senior citizen population appears to be headed to a 40 percent increase in the next five years. The world?s 65-and-older population is projected to triple by mid-century from 516 million in 2009 to 1.53 billion in 2050.
These are just a few of the many reports of the growing population of our elderly in the United States and World. What I read is that more senior citizens are living longer. What I haven?t researched is: WHY? Is it advanced medical technology and care? Or is it because of lack of insurance, senior citizens are changing their lifestyles to a more healthy lifestyle? I don?t know at this writing. It will be a topic of another article because I am interested.
For the point of this article I examine another concern for out senior citizens, namely Poverty.
Feb. 25, 2009 - Nearly half a million elderly living alone in California cannot make ends meet, according to a new policy brief by the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research and the Insight Center for Community Economic Development. These senior citizens, the report says, lack sufficient income to pay for a minimum level of housing, food, health care, transportation and other basic expenses.
More than 1 million seniors, both living alone and with family members, can't make ends meet, according to recent research. The center's policy brief looks at the most vulnerable group ? seniors living alone.
Again, I ask, Is It Time For Senior Citizens to look to the Internet as a possible, viable way to earn income online?
Poverty rate for people 65 and older in 2007, statistically unchanged from 2006. There were 3.6 million seniors in poverty in 2007, up from 3.4 million in 2006. Source: Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2007
Number of people 65 and older who were in the labor force in 2007, projections indicate that by 2016, the number will reach 10.1 million.

When I become a senior citizen I want to be retired and stay retired. I do not want to continue to work in a labor job, packing for major department stores, cleaning office buildings, or any job because my social security and pension is not enough to live on. As the economy dives and prices rise social security and pensions stay the same.
I also do not want to burden my family by having to live with them if I choose not to. No, the plight of the senior citizens becomes bleak.
The next step is utilizing the computer to make Money Online.
Some of the obstacles I hear when I talk to senior citizens about ?the computer?, is: I am too old to learn the computer, I am scared to use the computer or it is too late to learn all that new stuff.
(I worked in a call-center taking orders for a women?s apparel catalog company that target markets to senior citizen women and when I ask for their email address I get commentary such as the above)
Well, there is good news in that department. Without disclosing the company, (it is easy to find) I saw an ad in a major news magazine for seniors, a computer designed just for seniors. It has a larger screen, bigger keys on the keyboard and with an easy green circle that just says, ?GO? to start your Internet access. It also features a continual check for viruses and spam. It is so user friendly that it is completely a plug in and go computer. The hosting is cheaper than any on the market today.
Once you get familiar with your computer it is all about finding the right product to sell. Yes, to make money on line you still need a product. Unless, of course, you have your own product. Many senior citizens have an art or hobby that would sell well on Ebay, or Craigs List that can be utilized to increase your income.
However, you don?t need to have your own product. There are companies that need you to advertise their product and will pay you to market their product. You can find great products through ClickBank that pays well. One of the secrets of choosing a Clickbank product is finding one that not only pays you per sale, but pays you per month from that first sale. It is easy to learn which ones by reading the information Clickbank provides for each product.
Finding a product with video tutorials makes the learning curve much easier.
So, for you Senior Citizens reading this article, you are halfway there. Chances are it is your own computer you are using. You also can navigate the computer already. If you are not a senior citizen you may be reading about this because you have a senior citizen parent or relative that may be interested in learning a new income choice.
To close, I have this snippet of an article to share:
President John F. Kennedy designating May 1963 as Senior Citizens Month, encouraging the nation to pay tribute in some way to older people across the country; now Older Americans Month in May 2009
May 1, 2009 - A meeting with the National Council of Senior Citizens resulted in President John F. Kennedy designating May 1963 as Senior Citizens Month, encouraging the nation to pay tribute in some way to older people across the country. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter?s proclamation changed the name to Older Americans Month, a time to celebrate those 65 and older through ceremonies, events and public recognition.
It is my commitment that come this May, 2010, I will be teaching senior citizens in my neighborhood the in?s and out?s of learning how to earn that extra income online and helping them to achieve true independence. I am very excited about that.
So, my answer to my question is a resounding YES! It is time to start looking online for that extra or total income.
